Ever found yourself wondering about the age of your air conditioning unit? If not, this may sound silly to you. But surprisingly, the age of your air conditioner holds significant value. This is because these cooling champs generally stick around for around 15 to 20 years, depending on how well they’ve been treated. So, knowing the age of your air conditioner is like having an insider tip for homeowners – meaning you’ll be better prepared to handle any cooling conundrums that may come your way. To no one’s surprise, being blindsided doesn’t exactly come with a five-star rating.
To help you on this small HVAC quest, your trusty Clayton-Englewood Heating & Cooling team has some clever steps to reveal the mystery:
The Nameplate Detective-
Your first lead awaits on your condenser. Don’t know what that is? It’s actually just the large metal box outside your home, usually in the backyard or side of the house. Once you have located the condenser, look for the nameplate on the side of it. It’s your gateway to finding the manufacturer’s date. On the upper right corner of the nameplate, you should see where it says MFR DATE (Manufacturer Date) or something to that effect. If, for some reason, you can’t find it, scan the top of the nameplate for it. Every model varies. So, it may take a little time to pinpoint it. However, in the case, the manufacture date is still yet to be found, go ahead and proceed to the next step.
The Online Investigator-
It’s time to utilize your online investigative skills. Don’t worry; it’s not as complicated as it sounds. Start by gathering info from the nameplate. You’ll want to jot down the brand, model, and serial number listed on it. If you want to make it easier, just snap a quick pic of the nameplate instead. (Work smarter, not harder, right? Now, put your digital prowess to work! Enter all three details (brand, model, and serial number) into your favorite search engine, adding “manufacture date” to the end of it. Then click search. Several websites should generate, providing you with detailed instructions on how to decode your particular air conditioner’s manufacture date.
Congratulations, you’re now a seasoned HVAC detective! But just in case you have not been able to find the appropriate information, don’t worry.
